Sunset Nosh at Ponce City Market
Let me start by saying this: any party that has a version of the Bat signal projected onto the middle of the floor is an awesome party in my book.
In case you haven’t heard about Ponce City Market, it’s the large redevelopment project (currently still under construction) in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood that will turn the former Sears and City Hall East building into a thriving shopping, dining, working and residential multi-use space.
At this party, future residents and prospects celebrated the upcoming move-in date for The Flats, which is the residential component to Ponce City Market, operated by Greystar.
On September 1, 48 of their 259 residences will begin moving in, so if you use the Atlanta BeltLine all the time, and want to live on it, here’s your chance to move into the building, which endeavors to be a "city within a city."
And it really does sound marvelous. If you already work in the city, then your commute would be a breeze (much closer than from suburbia).
This appears to be central living at its finest: The Flats residents will enjoy access to grocery stores, a gym, parks, retail, and entertainment all under one roof.
And speaking of the roof, there will be miniature golf, midway carnival games, a bar concept and a restaurant concept up there!
But this party was all about the food, provided by future tenants of Ponce City Market. The lamb kebobs (in burger form) from Decatur favorite Chai Pani, chock full of spices and sauce, were so delicious, I had two.
(We all know my appetite is voracious, but hey they invited me to have another! It’d be rude to say no, right?)
I also sampled authentic homemade kimchi from Simply Seoul Kitchen, and washed it down with a blend of craft beer from Red Hare Brewing that will be exclusive to H&F Burger. And then I turned around.
It was like a mirage, glistening and shimmering in the desert. Mind you, we are all glistening; when you’re attending a party in a building that is still currently under construction, chances are excellent that air conditioning might not be installed yet. Such was true of this particularly warm day. But I digress.
Chilling before me, like the physical form of sigh of happiness, were pints and pints of handcrafted gelato. Be still my heart.
Nothing could’ve been tastier or more refreshing.
Honeysuckle Gelato, a local company started by three friends, is a winner, particularly the bourbon pecan and the salted caramel. You can find Honeysuckle Gelato in Whole Foods, and soon you’ll be able to enjoy them at their new location at the Central Food Court.
It’s definitely a good thing that Ponce City Market will also have a gym. Living here would be a tasty (and un-win-able) exercise in self-control.
