The Crawfish Boil
I love any kind of cookout. There's something about eating outside under the shade of trees and in the company of good people that just makes food taste richer and better!
When my friend Andrea invited me to the crawfish boil that she and her friends were throwing, I was keen to join the fun. I've never attended a crawfish boil and had no idea what to expect.
First things first, you should expect a sombrero:
Also, if your camera isn't at least forty years old, it needs to have a seat. This snazzy vintage Polaroid from the 1970s trumped the Nikon for this festivity.
By the end of the afternoon, the pile of Polaroids had grown considerably...
OK, you might be wondering, just what is a crawfish boil?
Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. You boil crawfish, usually with other yummy ingredients like sausage, corn, potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and dry and liquid seasoning.
The fun, of course, is eating it standing around a table. You dump the cooked crawfish onto a plastic-covered table and everyone digs in.
Below are the remnants:
This is the second year Andrea and her friends have thrown this boil. After last year, Tom bought the Stockpot, lid, basket, and stir paddle so this could be an annual event!
Other upgrades include switching the crawfish vendor to Finn Direct Seafood Market and doubling up on the sausage (always the first thing to get gobbled up). The crawfish is made in staggered batches throughout the afternoon so friends can come and go at their convince and still have fresh crawfish.
The gang also made koozies that we could take home as a memento!
One of the neatest aspects was fun live music. This guy was a one man band, complete with speakers, percussion, guitar, and vocals. Find him on Instagram @jamespmmusic.

Someone was reeeeal excited about the crawfish, though. He was like, "come on folks, stop jamming to the music, time to focus on the boilin..."
And the bread. There was also an incredible cake from Metrotainment Bakery, but I didn't get a pic of that because I was too busy alternately eating and snapping pics of Andrea's pup, Charlie!
I had a great time at my first crawfish boil! Count me in for next year. ;-)
