Have you visited the College Football Hall of Fame yet?
I don't think there's a more interactive place in Atlanta. Even the facade of the building let's you know it's not your average bear. It starts off fairly normal: four walls and a roof and all...
... and then there's the part that's actually shaped like a giant football!
The branding on this is genius. Whoever came up with that idea deserves a slow clap or two. Such a fun design really helps set the stage for what's inside. Let's go in!
To start off, you're given an All-Access Pass (basically your ticket) to wear around your neck, which you register with your name and email, and then you answer a couple of questions about your preferences, such as which college football team is your favorite, etc.
The reason you answer these questions is because there are sensors and computer chips all over the museum that essentially read the information on the All-Access Pass and personalize many components of your experience to you. Your name, your preferences.
In fact, this giant wall (which spans three levels) features a helmet from every college football team there is, and immediately after you register, you look at the wall to see that the helmet of the team you chose has lit up, in a special little shout out to you.
The fun has only just begun.
This place is by no means a stuffy museum. I kind of was expecting it to be something that wouldn't interest me much, and because I'd done zero research on the place prior to arrival, I had absolutely no expectations.
So, color me surprised when moments after arrival, I was invited to kick a field goal. Literally kick a field goal. Maaaan, I don't know about all this!
The museum has a giant space on the lower level devoted to a 45 yard area to see if you can kick an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big H.
After a quick lesson on how many paces to step back and then kick, I kicked it approximately five feet. My athletic skills are epic, clearly.
Heading upstairs, your eyes barely know where to look first. There are trophies, stats, uniforms, playbooks, team rituals and superstitions, depictions of tailgating, you name it. I don't want to spoil all the discovery for you, so here are just a few pics, in no particular order.
Not your typical boring-ass hall of fame museum, huh? Nope, this is a place to get up-close and personal with the action.
I mean, can't you feel the energy just from the photo below?
That last picture of tailgating does a great job of capturing the moment! I like displays like this.
One thing I really liked about the College Football Hall of Fame is that there are myriad opportunities to put yourself right inside the experience, and since it's all linked to your All-Access Pass, you can even relive the moments at home, as well as share to your social media.
There are even more experiences within this floor, but I'll let you go an experience that for yourself.
Going up to the next floor, you discover a hall with an entirely different mood, one that captures the historical story of college football. Indeed, the huge football-shaped building we saw earlier contains the tribute to college football legends, coaches, teams, and schools.
Hats off to the Atlanta Hall Management and the National Football foundation for creating such an educational and fun experience. The College Football Hall Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience is a real boon for Atlanta, and was very well done.
I'll finish with this quote, embedded into the concrete floor. Two thumbs up!
