Street Art: Lucile Avenue Bridge

Kinetic street art is the best. It's got an energy, a motion of its own.

Take this colorful example below, called The Highball Artist, seen underneath the Lucile Avenue bridge on the BeltLine.

This will always be one of my favorites in Atlanta.

The artist, Hadley Breckenridge, imaged buckets of paint being tipped off the top of the bridge. She then imagined a train barreling through, dragging the wet paint through the tunnel, where it would then...

...splash out on the other side.

Here's her artist's statement:

The Highball Artist, railroad slang for an engineer known for running the train fast, is a minimalist mural with intense color on a large scale, covering the sides and inside of the Lucille Avenue bridge and tunnel. The title and design imply that the speed of the train has come out through the tunnel, spilling color down one side of the bridge and exploding out of the other. The Highball Artist is an experience about movement, perspective, scale, time, space and the simple elements of color.

Talking about making a splash! Amiright?
