Have you been to Paolo's Gelato Italiano in Virginia-Highland?
It has seriously become my guilty pleasure, plying me with as many cones, cannolis, coffees, candies, cookies, custards, and crepes as my heart (and waistline) can handle.
If you ask me, a little taste of authentic Italy is well worth a few extra minutes on the treadmill!
Paolo's specializes in gelato, offering a hefty 62 flavors of creamy, smooth, dense Italian ice cream in flavors like straciatella, biscotti, dark chocolate, egg custard, and hazelnut. If you please, there are also sorbet-inspired fruit flavors like fig, mandarin orange, lemon, strawberry, and peach, among tons of others, all of which are handmade and change seasonally.
This place has me like:
The decor in this small shop is charming and filled with little details like this poster from which you can read Paolo's story:
And this fun cone door handle on your way inside.
And that isn't the only pretty cone in the place; take a look at your choices!
These fresh-made cannolis are begging to be stuffed with the filling of your choosing.
And if you're feeling linguistically adventurous, try ordering in Italian! There's a cheat sheet nearby ↓
Because after all:
So you might as well enjoy dessert!
If you're in the neighborhood for dinner at one of Virginia-Highland's fantastic restaurants, I suggest skipping their dessert menu and popping into Paolo's for a cone or cuppa, or even a pint to-go.
Shall I have another? Don't mind if I do!
You'll find Paolo's at 1025 Virginia Ave, Atlanta, GA 30306.
